Gemini is the AI-powered assistant from Google aimed to supercharge your ideas, write, learn, plan and more. To promote Gemini's study enhancement capabilities, the Hook team was tasked with creating a collection of engaging videos for their social platforms and their Keyword blog article 5 ways Gemini can help students study smarter. The creative was to capture a chill anime-style lo-fi aesthetic in which characters were shown studying while utilizing Gemini's new study features including OpenStax, interactive quizzes, and document upload.
The first step for our team was to conceptualize different scenarios where a student might hunker down to study. I provided digital sketches of these different settings, including a bedroom, a library, a cafe, and a passenger train. After narrowing down the options, the team opted for a cozy reading nook in an upper floor bedroom.
After creating the scenario sketches, I developed a small selection of character designs who would inhabit the study scene. It was important to me to offer a diverse range of characters who felt like they could have multi-dimensional characteristics while still existing in the target demographic of young individuals who would likely use Gemini to study.
The final video featured the finished illustration animated elegantly into a picturesque cinemagraph that was paired with extruded UI motion graphics.
